BOMI Dictionary Merges with Web-Based FMpedia© Standardizing Building Industry Terms

BOMI (Building Owners and Managers Institute) International, has announced a partnership with the IFMA
Foundation to bring a wiki-like web-based glossary of building terms to members of the building industry. FMpedia © is, to a large extent, modeled on the Wikipedia model (www.wikipedia.com). FMpedia is a dynamic, real time, open, Internet-based glossary where contributors are welcome to add new FM terms and definitions, and comment on existing ones. It is meant to be as broad and international as possible. The glossary is non-commercial, supported by the IFMA Foundation, and contains no product endorsements or paid sponsors.

BOMI Offers Updated Asset Management Courses

The Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) International recently presented the first in a series of Asset Management classes, using a redesigned coursebook to address issues raised by 2009’s depressed real estate market.

The course will be taught at various locations around the country in upcoming months. The first course was held in March in Washington, D.C.

The aim is to acquaint property managers and others with preserving and protecting real estate assets, and it is open to anyone interested in learning more about this specialized area of real estate management.

“The class exposes students to the entire world of an asset manager,” says Cary Fronstin, the instructor of the first course in March. “After taking the class, students will be familiar with the acquisition process, the different forms of real estate ownership, the disposition process, and, most importantly, the role of asset managers and their importance in maximizing value.”

Fronstin will be teaching additional Asset Management classes, along with other instructors who all have experience in real estate management.

Courses in Asset Management are given in classrooms. A condensed version of the classroom course will also be held in Los Angeles from April 23 to April 25, in Boca Raton, Fla. from May 15 to May 17, and in Atlanta from September 16 to September 19. A longer version will be held in Chicago from August 25 to October 13. An accelerated review will be held in Toronto from June 11 to June 14.

In addition, a self-study course is being offered through BOMI International. All versions of the course are accepted for BOMI’s Property Management Financial Proficiency certificate program and BOMI’s Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation program.

Professionals who complete BOMI’s Asset Management course also qualify for ACE accreditation, and the course enables active BOMI graduates to fulfill their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) point requirement.
